Brexit Thoughts from Abroad (after Robert Browning)
Oh, to be in England
Now that Brexit’s there,
And Saxons vexed in England
Seethe, with a show of derriere
That scorns Eurowurst, source of all their grief,
Round swears full fealty to Blighty beef,
While those Polish nurses know it somehow
Fly England – now!
And after Brexit, when May discos,
And the Johnson plots, and all the jingoes!
Hark, where the very loud one at cliff edge
Leans out to view the lorry park at Dover
Benzes and Volvos – thousands they allege –
That’s Nigel Foppish who drives an old Rover
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The spirit of adventure!
And though the lorry parks have exits few
All lead to sunlit uplands (tariffs due)
The traffic jams, the shortage of manpower
– Far from bad this is England’s finest hour!
